Yes you do. Access to primary care sports medicine physician consultation is via family physician or medi-clinic referral. Walk up consultations are not available.

If you have not heard from your surgeon 2 weeks post imaging and testing, please contact your surgeon’s office.
During your consultation, your surgeon may send you for advanced imaging or testing to determine next steps.
Each specialist has an individual waitlist and wait times. Each office individually triages their own referrals. As schedules change month to month based on OR time availability, call schedules and number of days a particular surgeon is in the office, our reception team is unable to provide wait time estimates.
Preparing for Surgery
Typically, you will need to fast for several hours before receiving an anesthetic for your surgery. This is crucial for your safety during the procedure. Always follow your doctor's specific guidelines regarding food and drink.
Feeling anxious is common before surgery. Speak with your General Practitioner/healthcare provider about your concerns. They can provide resources or techniques to help manage your anxiety.
No, they do not have to remain at the hospital/surgical centre. Please have their phone number available for the staff at the hospital/surgical centre. Your ride will receive a call 30-60 minutes prior to you being ready to be picked up from surgery.
Expect a thorough check-up and discussions about the procedure. You may receive sedation or anesthesia, depending on the surgery. Understanding the process can help ease your anxiety.
Please discuss with your General Practitioner (Family Physician) at your Pre-Operative medical appointment which medications you may continue and/or may have to discontinue. Please note that Ozempic should not be taken 7 days prior to surgery.

Physiotherapy & Rehab
This will vary depending on the procedure you have done. You can discuss a return to work plan with your orthopedic surgeon and physiotherapist when the time comes.
Please discuss during your consultation and pre-operative appointments. Post Operative, contact your surgeon’s office if this is unclear.
Swelling, stiffness, and soreness are common early on. Gradual improvements in range of motion, strength, and pain levels are good signs. If you are unsure, reach out to your care team for a check-in.
Some discomfort is normal, but if pain worsens or feels sharp or unusual, stop the activity and contact your physiotherapist or surgeon’s office for guidance.
