SOSMC is a multidisciplinary facility located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. The center was established in 2004 as a multidisciplinary orthopedic and sports medicine facility, the first in Saskatchewan, providing leadership and excellence through innovation in the area of orthopedic and sports medicine assessment, management, surgery, rehabilitation and education.

The objective of the Saskatoon Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Center (SOSMC) is to provide an exceptional standard of care and personal attention to each client seeking support and guidance, allowing them to achieve their individual health, fitness and performance goals.

SOSMC is designed to serve the needs of the general community, active individuals, and competitive athletes alike. Client care encompasses acute and chronic musculoskeletal injury, as well as pre and post surgical management. The center strives to take a proactive approach to client health, accessing the appropriate medical, diagnostic, and rehabilitation resources as effectively and efficiently as possible in order to provide optimal care for each client.

Assessment of each client’s concern is approached from a global perspective, identifying not only the symptoms, but also the source of the problem, enabling management to address both primary treatment and secondary prevention.

Management employs a collaborative team approach centered around the individual needs of each client, accessing medical, orthopedic, rehabilitation, bracing and community resources accordingly.

Our Services

Orthopedic Surgeons

The objective of SOSMC orthopedic surgeons is to provide an exceptional standard of orthopedic care and personal attention to each client seeking support and guidance. The SOSMC team is fortunate to have several outstanding orthopedic surgeons on staff. Their special interests and specific training provides them with the experience and tools to evaluate and direct the management of each client’s specific injury or condition, providing clinical assessment, management, and surgical services.

Once a clinical assessment has been completed, the orthopedic surgeon will establish a management plan that may include: medical/radiological investigations; surgical intervention; physiotherapy rehabilitation; sport/activity modification; bracing; medication; or additional management options.

The team of orthopedic surgeons at SOSMC has extensive training and experience in the evaluation and management of conditions involving the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee and spine. They are dedicated to continuing education and technical training in order to provide the most up to date surgical techniques and procedures.

PRIMARY CARE SPORTS MEDICINE

Primary care sports medicine physicians provide clinical assessment and management services to a variety of clients at SOSMC. They have extensive experience with a variety of sports medicine and orthopedic conditions, and work closely with the orthopedic surgeons at the center.

Once a clinical assessment has been completed, the physician may establish a management plan including: medical/radiological investigations; physiotherapy rehabilitation; sport/activity modification; bracing; medication; orthopedic referral; or additional management options.

The primary care physicians at SOSMC are dedicated to continuing education and technical training in order to provide the most up to date management techniques.

Access to primary care sports medicine physician consultation is via family physician or medi-clinic referral. See our contact page for more details.

Bracing & Custom Orthotics

The SOSMC multidisciplinary team includes a dynamic bracing and custom orthotics team providing individualized client consultations and services, specializing in custom and off-the-shelf bracing, post-operative products, splinting and supportive devices, as well as custom and off-the-shelf orthotic devices.

They offer clients, and the medical and rehabilitation community, access to the extensive selection of products including premium products by DonJoy, Ossur, Innovation Sports, Procare, Anatech, AirCast, MedSpec, Powerstep and more. Products also include crutches, canes, slings, as well as cold therapy equipment (cryocuff). The team welcomes special product inquiries for unique problems.

The bracing and orthotics department can be accessed via physician referral or direct access by the client. It is advisable to acquire a physician referral if the client will be seeking insurance coverage for their product cost. Most insurance and funding programs require a physician referral in order to facilitate client reimbursement. See our contact page for more details.

ZONE Sports Physiotherapy

ZONE Sports Physiotherapy is a sports and orthopedic rehabilitation clinic located in the state-of-the-art Point 9 Building, offering a comprehensive approach to your rehabilitation needs. The staff of 10 physiotherapists provide clinical assessment and management for all types of orthopedic, sports, personal, work and auto injuries, as well as post-operative rehabilitation. Their goal is to be an integral part of each client’s rehabilitation team, with an emphasis on holistic, individual, client-focused care. Injury management includes client education and activity guidelines, as well as a variety of physiotherapy treatment options including exercise, manual therapy, mobilization, acupuncture, IMS, modalities and more. Exercise programming is a key component of each client’s individual plan. ZONE physiotherapists employ a collaborative approach to ensure that recovery, rehabilitation, and training work simultaneously to improve the specific injury while also addressing the entire body, providing clients with the tools to develop total body strength, flexibility, balance and fitness that will help them prevent future injuries. ZONE Sports Physiotherapy delivers exceptional service and care, helping each client achieve their personal health, fitness and performance goals.

Associated Radiologists (Xray/Ultrasound)

Associated Radiologists’ mission is to provide the highest standard of medical imaging service, meeting all of your expectations of convenience, comfort and professionalism. The group has been in existence in Saskatoon, SK since 1946, currently consisting of 21 radiologists and 3 nuclear medicine physicians, providing quality care to its patients from its clinics in Saskatoon and Prince Albert, and from its affiliated hospitals. They offer a broad range of specialized diagnostic medical imaging services, including digital X-ray, Mammography and Ultrasound.

Dr Brad Selk (Physiatrist/Physical Medicine)

Selk Physical Medicine & EMG clinic is adjacent to SOSMC. Dr Brad Selk is a specialist in physical medicine. Also known as a physiatrist, he is a physician that specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation. Physiatrists are nerve, muscle and bone experts who treat injuries or illnesses that affect how you move. Their goal is to decrease pain and enhance performance without surgery.

Dr Patrick Ling (MSK Ultrasound/Sports Medicine)

Dr. Patrick Ling is the founder of Avant Sports Medicine. Experienced in sports medicine, emergency medicine, and family medicine, Dr Ling is a pioneer in musculoskeletal ultrasound and the first sports medicine physician in Canada to be credentialed as a musculoskeletal sonographer. He offers both diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound and ultrasound guided interventional procedures for non-operative musculoskeletal conditions. (contact link or info)
